TLIF0005 Apply a fatigue risk management system is the current mandated nationally recognised fatigue management training for heavy vehicle drivers operating under National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) and the National Heavy Vehicle Law (NHVL).
The course involves learning the skills and knowledge required for heavy vehicle drivers to manage fatigue and to work safely within the Transport and Logistics industry. The competency applies to bus and truck drivers operating within a National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) accredited Basic Fatigue Management system (BFM) or Advanced (AFM) Fatigue Management system.
The course includes the identification of fatigue risk, applying fatigue risk management strategies, identifying and acting on signs of fatigue, operating within a fatigue risk management system, planning and navigating trips, updating and maintaining records, complying with work and rest limits, and implementing appropriate strategies to minimise fatigue during work activities.
Additionally, this course includes the Western Australian and Northern Territory Fatigue Management regulatory requirements, providing valid certification in all Australian jurisdictions.
Being awarded this unit of competency is a necessary requirement to operate under NHVR Fatigue Management Accreditation but it is only one of the criteria. Prospective applicants should check with the NHVR before undertaking training and/or assessment.

This course consists five (5) online theory sections, a short answer written section, a practical exercise and completion interview which can be completed using computer or smartphone devices which have a web camera. The theory training and practical tasks are completed at your own pace either at your workplace or at home.
Your practical assessment is undertaken in simulated workplace operations using the AFM model company AFM Logistics which provides all policies, plans, procedure, forms and records needed to complete this part of the assessment.

AFM provides all learning resources and training videos to assist students in achieving the required competency. There is a knowledge based online assessment followed by practical tasks which are completed and uploaded through our Learning Management System.

Course Duration– allow up to 6 hours of online study and up to 3 hours of self-study dependent on existing industry knowledge.
Completion: Students have three calendar months from enrolment to complete their training.

Your practical assessment is undertaken in simulated workplace operations using the AFM model company AFM Logistics which provides all polies, procedure, forms and records needed to complete this part of the assessment.
To pass the assessment for this course you must meet demonstrate satisfactory performance in all the course assessment criteria. We provide students with support to successfully complete their studies however, if despite this support, you are still unable to demonstrate satisfactory performance after three attempts, don’t worry. Contact our support line and we can then work with you to complete your studies.
Once you have completed all of your assessment requirements and your assessor has confirmed that you have met all course requirements, you will be able to print your Statement of Attainment. If you need to re-print, simply log in again.
